Vacancy: DP / Steadicam Op / AC

Duration: Four 7 day weeks, starts tomorrow
Payment is on a lo/no/deferred basis.
DP needed who owns an HD or 35mm camera, grip truck with gas, lighting, crane and generator (also with gas). There is no pay and you must feed yourself daily, but if you want to stay home and just let us use your stuff, that'd be fine too. Must have 10 years experience, references, reel and major award for cinematography. You will not be involved in color timing. If we can shoot in your house too, that would also be great. IMDB credit only offered.
We are also desperate for a super experienced Steadicam operator with "A" list credits and top of the line gear that we won't pay for. This should include a preston system, super post and gyros for a one-shot scene lasting for 8-9 minutes where you will ascend 4 levels of stairs backward, duck through a window, get on a crane, step off and then run full sprint. No pay offered, but we have a PA who might rub your shoulders if he's not busy being a human sand bag. If you own a sand bag, please bring it. Some water and Fresca provided.
We will also need an experienced AC to be a one-man camera support team, pulling focus, slating, loading, setting up camera, marking actors and doing time cards - No pay, but you still need to do time cards. More importantly, you need to be technical experts at pulling focus on Steadicam, working with remote heads as well as picking up and returning the gear in your own car.

Only in this industry can people have the audacity to ask someone to donate their time for weeks on end for credit and a meal. Deferred pay mean you will never get paid. RE; looking for videographer

you know what is really funny!? When I go to Ralphs and grab groceries and then when I get up to the clerk, I just bust out my VIDEO REEL!!! They crack up!!
And what is with you all saying, "Great for a student" ...great how? You think because they are students they shouldn't be paid. I don't care if you're a student or veteran, you should be compensated no matter what.
And please leave out the arrogance in your ad. Filming you doing a parody is not a great thing for our reels, and in fact is something we do for a paycheck, not put on reels.
Paid work goes on reels because they are actually worthwhile projects!

Upcoming Mobisode Needs DP

Upcoming mobile-episode production is looking for experienced Director of Photography with their own camera and equipment.
The shoot will take place over three days, sometime between February 23 and March 2.
Only applicants who provide links to their REEL will be considered. This is a must.
Please be available this Saturday or Sunday (24 or 25) for an interview with the Director and Producer.

Hello everybody if you are experienced, and have lots of equipment then this AD is for you!!!
$75 bucks for a full day of work!!! That's $6 bucks per hour...or 2 dollars less than minimum wages...bring your talent, your experience, your reel, and of course, don't forget your equipment. Because they have none.
I guess if you are an "experienced DP" you better try your luck working for McDonalds...because at least THEY PAY MINIMUM WAGES!!!!

Here's an idea for the poster of the original preposterous post: Provide a link to YOUR reel to help US decide if we should GIVE you our valuable time, experience and the use of our equipment.
The sheer arrogance of these posts is amazing. But I guess it's a product of today's society, where every kid is told that THEY are more special than anyone else. Everyone thinks they deserve the world on a platter; the thought of "paying dues" is an alien concept...

RE: Wardrobe/Stylist for SAG Feature Film (Los Angeles)

Does anyone else find it offensive that $1,000 flat (including kit fee) for an 18 day shoot translates to approximately $55.56/day? Even if the day was only ten hours long (which it never is for anyone in the costume department), that would mean $5.56/hour. What about prep and wrap days? Gas? It's obvious anyone expecting any decent work from someone for that rate has no idea what they are doing. Maybe it would be better for this director to stick to reality TV. This is show BUSINESS, not show hobby. If paying a decent rate isn't possible, then maybe it's time to rethink the project. Oh, and one last thing, "Wardrobe" is an old theater term, applicable to theater ONLY. The correct name for the department is Costume Department. The head of that department is the Costume Designer; and a stylist is a completely different job.

THE FILM STARTS SHOOTING THIS UPCOMING SUNDAY for 18 DAYS THROUGH JAN 31st. REPLY ASAP AS WE NEED TO HIRE SOMEONE IN THE NEXT DAY OR SO.
The film is set in modern day los angeles, and is about the dynamics between dating friends.
There are the main characters all in their late 20's early 30's and the style of the film is natural, yet a little edgy and hip.
We don't have much money for rate or purchases, and a lot of the job will be helping the actors choose their wardrobes from clothes they already own, as well as some light shopping.
The film is the first feature of a director on a current network reality show.
The total rate for the whole shoot (18 days) is $1000.00. We understand this is extremely low, but the type of person we're looking for is an assistant who has some experience, but is looking to break out of the short film world and in to features.

Photographer - No Pay

Dear fellow photographers,
I've been cruising CL for about 5 years now. I find a lot of good work here. I also see a great deal of people placing ads offering to give you a job that doesn't pay so you can build your portfolio. They're often disguised as "internships" or they offer to compensate you later or give you photo credit. Look, it depends on the job. If Vogue is offering you an unpaid internship, take it. Otherwise, you'll find you'll get a few measly photos for your portfolio and not much else in return. The amount of time it takes AFTER the shoot (selection, photoshop), isn't worth the grief. You'll also find that you're not just taking pictures, these jerks want photoshop and sometimes prints. Don't work for free!
SET THE STANDARD AND GET PAID FOR YOUR WORK!
Even if you charge a small fee, get something. You need to eat too and we all need to work together to put an end to the idea that photographers will work for free JUST for portfolio work.
I understand you need material for your portfolio, shouldn't you get paid in the process? Paying your dues is one thing, but that doesn't mean you should subject yourself to slave labor. Do free work, but on YOUR OWN terms. Make it a win/win situation working with models, not cheapo companies looking for freebies.
Do yourself and all your fellow struggling photographers a favor and charge for your work. Set the standard. Times are tough and we all need to work together to make it through this. When you see those freebie ads, email them and tell them to charge for labor. Would you expect someone to mow your lawn for free just so they could get experience?
