Remember the good ol days...

Date: 2009-10-16, 10:54AM PDT

...when the "Crew Gigs" section at least once in a while would actually PAY? When at least once in a while, it would be a significant project; a short film, a low budget feature shot on 35 or 16. Before all these digital cameras came on the market and completely saturated it with wannabe "filmmakers", so that every jerk with a credit card and a camera calls himself a director and wants to hire nothing but free crew on here? Im so sick of "Copy, credit, meal" provided I could punch someone. (I wish at the very least someone would change that cliche phrase; We NEVER get a copy, nobody cares about the worthless credit, and the meal probably stinks.)

Ive applied for probably a hundred jobs in the last months, jobs which I was OVERqualified for, many even freebees (trying to learn the Red camera), I maybe got 3 responses. And at least one I remember was reportedly a scam. I wonder most of the time, especially the "Production Assistant" listings, if they're even real, if the people that posted it are just lonely and wanna see mail in their inbox. (Like the Niborg's from "Glengary Glen Ross") Because no one ever gets back, at least not to me. I'm just completely fed up, this entire "crew listing" has become essentially useless, besides a pool of free labor for many "directors" and "producers" preying on film school kids.

Here's some advice to all you wannabe crew members just moving here: Unless your union brother in law is gonna get you in someplace? FIND ANOTHER LINE OF WORK. Because this has become virtually impossible.

Location: (Frustrated-ville)
Compensation: Ha ha. "Pay". In your dreams.
