Volunteer vs. Intern etc

Date: 2009-10-02, 3:39PM PDT

I understand that budgets are tight.
I also disagree with people who say that if you don't have trucks of money you shouldn't make your film.
Based on that I also think that it's ok to ask someone to volunteer to work on your project for any number of reasons.

But do not confuse internships with volunteerism. Internships have strict guidelines and must follow minimum wage laws. They also must be worked out "in advance" with "accredited" institutions. One day on set is not an internship. Passing out flyers is not an internship.

If you want people to "donate" their time and resources ask for volunteers.
If you are offering below minimum wage realize you are asking people to invest in your project.

Internships are different.
